Position: PLANNER II September 20, 2006
Department: Office of Planning and Development
Salary: $2,665 per month
POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Okanogan County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Planner II. Duties include: Review development proposals, on-site plans, building plans, parcel maps & subdivision proposals for compliance with appropriate regulations; prepare reports & recommendations. Prepare initial studies & review on environmental impact of development projects. Compile information & make recommendations on special studies & prepare planning reports. Assist in the research & development of comprehensive plan elements. Check development plans for issuance of building permits &; process permit applications. Review & process requests to divide properties. Confer with & advise other departments & agencies, consultants, architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, citizen task forces & the general public regarding County development policies, standards & processes. Plan & conduct meetings with individuals & groups in order to initiate the decision making process. Receive inquiries from County departments, & other citizens, provide necessary information or refer to appropriate person or agency when unable to handle personally. Research related land use & zoning ordinances to provide writing expertise to the department & other local planning committees in drafting County land use ordinances. As assigned, conduct on-site inspection to assure appropriate compliance. Assist in the development & administration of the comprehensive plan & other major planning projects. Take complaints on potential County code violations, review codes, perform inspections, write violation letters & recommend legal actions when needed. Review building permits for compliance with County ordinances & the comprehensive plan At a minimum, Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly & accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by examples in the above job description. Requires a BA or BS degree in planning, geography, engineering, environmental sciences or related field. The individual should have, but is not required, a minimum of six months experience, preferably in the public sector. Three years of professional experience in the above fields may be substituted for degree. Requires excellent oral & written communication skills, ability to read legal descriptions, knowledge of WA State planning legislation, & ability to implement local planning objectives. The individual should also have a working knowledge of word processing programs, drafting/graphic art skills & other skills necessary to carry out duties. Requires ability to maintain a good working relationship with citizen groups, general public & other County departments. The department may request selective certification procedure to fill positions assigned to certain duties. Beginning salary is $2665.00 per month. Position: Payroll Deputy
Department: Okanogan County Auditor’s Office
Salary:
$2,288
to $2,780 per month plus benefits
Okanogan County is accepting applications for a Payroll Deputy position with the Okanogan County Auditor’s Office. This is a regular county position with benefits. Position performs and coordinates all aspects of the County’s payroll function. Duties are accomplished independently with minimum of direct supervision; requires the use of good judgment, independent decision making and effective communication skills. Duties include but are not limited to managing the payroll database, creating payroll reports, auditing employee timesheets, processing monthly and overtime payroll, and processing quarterly federal payroll taxes.
Minimum Qualifications: High school education or equivalent with two years of full payroll experience. An AA or equivalent degree in accounting or business may substitute for one year of required experience. Proficient ten key and computer skills required. Requires the ability to perform accurate mathematical functions, follow procedures and comprehend regulations, policies, and common practices.
Preferred Qualifications: College level course work in accounting or business, experience in public sector accounting and Crystal reporting experience.

Okanogan County Director of Planning & Development
Okanogan County, Washington is accepting applications for the position of Planning Director. Salary starts at $5,500 per month plus excellent benefits. This position reports directly to the Okanogan County Board of Commissioners and is expected to provide leadership and direction to approximately 9 people with a budget of $1.4 million. The Planning Director is expected to plan, organize, direct and control all activities of the Okanogan County Planning Department, including but not limited to developing and implementing policies, procedures and practices to accomplish the land use planning objectives of the County. Applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in planning, preferably regional or rural planning and at least five years progressively responsible experience in planning, at least one of which is in the public sector and two years of supervisory experience in a professional job classification.
