Mission
Statement
It shall be the policy of the Okanogan
County Noxious Weed Control Board to promote the control of noxious
weeds, increase public awareness, educate private, state, county and
federal entities. To develop and encourage cooperative working
relationships, and treat everyone fair and equal. We will have the goal
to promote good working relations for all Okanogan County residents, to
keep the economic value of our land by being good neighbors to each
other.
The
Role of The Weed Control Board
The local noxious weed control boards and
weed districts carry out the states noxious weed law at the local
level. Each county board is composed of five directors who volunteer
their time and effort to oversee the county noxious weed program. Local
weed boards and districts provide many services to the communities they
serve including:
- Early detection surveys designed to
identify noxious weeds in the early stages of invasion;
- Technical assistance and education on
noxious weeds, prevention strategies, and control options for
landowners;
- Enforcement of noxious weed control
responsibilities to ensure resource protection
and uniform standards; and
- Local flexibility and the ability to
address local weed control priorities.
