Access to Baby & Child Dentistry (ABCD) Program

The Access to Baby and Child Dentistry (ABCD) Program increases access to dentists for Medicaid eligible infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Launched in 1995, the program enrolls eligible children and erases access barriers to early prevention treatment. Visit www.smileabcd.org or call (509) 422-7140.

The ABCD Program:

• Identifies and enrolls Medicaid-eligible newborns and infants
  
• Identifies and enrolls Medicaid-eligible toddlers who have not yet reached their fifth birthday
  
• Matches each child with an ABCD certified dentist
  
• Ensures each child receives dental care until their 6th birthday
  

Children enrolled in the ABCD Program receive:

• Match with an ABCD-certified dentists
  
• Comprehensive initial exam
  
• Two periodic exams each year – six months apart
  
• Three fluoride varnish applications each year
  
• Two family oral health education sessions each year
  
• Restorations (oral surgery) as needed
  

Several Okanogan County Dentists are certified to participate in the ABCD program. Program staff work closely with these dentists, providing case management with ABCD parents and technical assistance on ABCD program administration.
