Okanogan County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division

The Okanogan County Sheriff's Corrections Division provides correctional and custody services for local, state, and federal law enforcement and criminal justice agencies locally, as well as the coordination of prisoner custody transfer and transportation with jails and prisons across the state.

The Okanogan County Corrections Center, or jail, is operated by 19 Corrections Deputies, supervised by five Corrections Sergeants. The jail staff provides inmate supervision, in-custody court security, and transport services for up to 193 inmates housed at the jail.

Classification Corrections Hiring Level-

Entry Level Bonus $10,000. Initial Payment- $5,000/ Second Payment- $2,500/ Final Payment- $2,500
Lateral/Certified Bonus $15,000. Initial Payment- $8,000/ Second Payment- $3,500/ Final Payment- $3,500

Entry-Level Requirements

  • 21 Years of Age (there is no maximum age limit)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No felony convictions or pattern of misdemeanors
  • No use of illegal drugs within the past 5 years
  • Possess a valid WA State Drivers License
  • U.S. Citizenship or Legal Resident   

Lateral/Certified-Level Requirements

  • Entry-level requirements plus:
  • WA State Corrections Officer Certification or Equivalent (and ability to obtain an Equivalency Certificate from CJTC)
  • Lateral Specific Requirements:
    • Currently and continuously employed as a WA State certified corrections officer or equivalent, a public corrections agency for the past 24 months
    • Be probation period complete

Lateral or Certified Entry Incentives

  • Time in Service Allowance - New hire presently employed with a public LE agency when hired shall receive annual leave accrual time credit based on years of continuous service. Additionally, time in service credit will be applied to step increase computation for wages.
  •  Annual Leave Front-load - New hire shall be awarded one week of annual leave upon hire. Regular annual leave begins accruing immediately.
  • Sick Leave Front-load - New hire shall be awarded two weeks of sick leave upon hire. Regular sick leave begins accruing immediately.

    • Apply and take a written exam with the Okanogan County Civil Service Examiner, and
    • Pass an Oral Board Interview (Civil Service Board)
    • Pass a Background Investigation and Psychological Exam
    • Interview with the Chief of Corrections and/or Sheriff
  • Lateral Entry Applicants
    • Complete and submit a Personal History Statement on the Civil Service webpage.
