Geographically a highland desert, the area features generally arid summers and mild winters. The county is home to about 43,000 people and covers nearly 5,300 square miles. Residents and visitors alike enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, hunting, golf, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, off-road vehicle fun, and other great recreational opportunities.
The Sheriff's Office Communications Center receives over 30,000 calls for service per year for emergency and public safety services. Our diverse patrol response area includes moderately dense residential, suburban sprawl, agricultural farms and ranches, lakes and rivers, forests, and remote wilderness.
The Sheriff's Office's mission to provide quality, professional, and ethical public safety services to the residents, visitors, and communities we serve, requires a strong, dedicated team of community-minded professionals. For more information about how the Sheriff's Office is organized to accomplish this mission, select the "Our Division Teams" link in the left navigation menu.
